Desde 2009 es catedrático de Historia del Arte Moderno en la Universidad de Viena.Tras estudiar en Pavía, Bolonia y Ginebra, Maria Antonietta Terzoli impartió clases en las universidades de Ginebra y Zúrich. Desde 1991 ejerce de profesora en la Universidad de Basilea, donde dirige el departamento de Estudios Italianos.
