Major Marvin Pope of the Marion County Sheriffs Department appeared before the Sheriffs Merit Board upon charges of failing to obey a superior officer and operating a county owned vehicle while under the influence of intoxicating beverages. The Merit Board found him guilty of ". . . willful disobedience of a lawful order of a superior officer. . . ." He was reduced to the rank of deputy and suspended from September 22, 1971, until midnight, November 10, 1971.
